Difference between Digital Marketing and Traditional Marketing

Marketing is not a new concept it was present 50 years back also the only thing that has changed is the way of doing marketing, while in the past marketing was done following traditional methods but with changing times marketing has also become high tech and companies are increasingly using digital medium for doing marketing of their products and services. If you are one of those who is scratching his or her head over digital marketing and traditional marketing terms than you should know the difference between digital marketing and traditional marketing –

Digital Marketing and Traditional Marketing Differences

Meaning

Digital marketing refers to that marketing in which company uses various digital methods like internet, mobiles, emails, social media and other such method to attract customers towards company’s products or services while traditional marketing refers to that marketing which companies are using for past many years and includes medium like radio, television, billboard, pamphlet, newspapers, magazines and so on.

Response Time

In digital marketing response of consumers is quick because if consumers likes the product he or she purchases that product instantly by clicking on buy button as products are delivered at doorsteps of the consumers within 1 or 2 days whereas in the case of traditional marketing response time is not that quick because even if the consumer likes the product advertised on television or newspaper he or she will not go immediately to purchase that product rather he or she will go according to his or her own convenience.

Highly Targeted

Digital marketing can be highly targeted in the sense that companies can target their advertisements towards only potential customers and not towards all customers which is not the case with traditional where advertisements are seen not only by potential customers but all types of people. Hence for example, if toy manufacturer is advertising their toys on television than that advertisement will be seen by all people even though the target audience of toy manufacturers are only kids whereas in case of digital marketing same toy making company can advertise the toys only on websites meant for kids.

Cost Factor

Digital marketing is less expensive as compared to traditional marketing because in case of traditional methods of marketing like television and radio advertising companies have to make detailed advertisements which is a costly affair and if the company is appointing some celebrity as a brand ambassador than it is even more costly. In simple words, due to digital marketing being less expensive even small companies having limited capital and resources can use digital marketing for advertising their products which is not possible in the case of traditional marketing.

Reach and Flexibility

In case of digital marketing its reach is not limited to domestic markets only rather one can reach to any part of the world with the help of digital marketing whereas as far as traditional marketing is concerned its reach is limited to domestic markets only and for international markets company has to make different advertisements which is a costly affair, besides digital marketing is more flexible than traditional marketing in the sense that it is easier to alter digital marketing campaign as opposed to traditional marketing campaigns.

As one can see from the above differences that marketing has come a long way as marketers have switched from traditional method of marketing to digital method of marketing still one cannot ignore the traditional method of marketing completely as in some places and for some products traditional method of marketing scores over digital marketing.
