Vestibule Training Advantages and Disadvantages

Training is an essential part of any organization which is looking to improve the skillset and knowledge of its employees, training can be imparted in many ways and vestibule training is one of the methods of training. Vestibule training refers to that training in which the employees of the company are provided with similar machines and environments like that of actual working. In simple words in the case of vestibule training is similar to mock exams just like mock exams help the students in preparing for the final exam in the same way vestibule training prepares workers for the actual work. In order to get a better understanding of this term, one should look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of vestibule training –

Advantages of Vestibule Training

Same Environment

The first and foremost advantage of vestibule training is that workers get the same environment as that of actual work environment which helps them in getting accustomed to the work which they are expected to perform and hence workers are at advantage in the sense that they do not have to work straight away. In simple words, if a soldier is sent to war directly then he or she will face problems however if he or she is sent to war after mock drill then he or she will be more comfortable in the same way vestibule training works.

No Disturbance in Actual Work due to Vestibule Training

Another benefit of vestibule training is that there is no disturbance in the normal day-to-day working of the organization as both vestibule training and normal work carry on side by side resulting in the current workforce not getting distracted by the new workforce. In simple words experienced or current workers do not have that added pressure of training or helping junior workers as it is being done by vestibule training and thus they can concentrate on their work.

Easy to Switch

In the case of the express highway there are 3 lanes while the last lane is for slow speed vehicles while the first 2 lanes are for high-speed vehicles just like in expressway there is an easy transition from one lane to another if you want to go at high speed in the same way in case of vestibule training since workers are provided with simulated work environment it makes easy for them to switch from training to actual job.

Disadvantages of Vestibule Training

Vestibule Training is Expensive

The biggest disadvantage of vestibule training is that it is very expensive because the company will need to invest in machinery, furniture, process, and supervisors to create the same working environment as that of actual working environment which only a few companies can afford and is the reason why this method of training is not used by many companies.

Reality Bites

While vestibule training does provide a simulated working environment but the fact is no training can prepare you fully for the real working environment and thus there is no guarantee that workers doing well in vestibule training will also do well in the actual working environment as in real working environment in times of crunch situations you need character as well as acumen to solve the problem which no training can provide.

Not Suitable for All Situations

Vestibule training has limited applicability in the sense that it is not feasible as well as suitable for all types of industries unlike other methods of training like job rotation or internship which are applicable as well as suitable for all types of companies as well as workers.

As one can see from the above that vestibule training has pros as well as cons and that is the reason why any company thinking of implementing this method of training should carefully read above points and then only should take any decision.
